Last year, the city of Aral Moreira, producer André Fabre lost 70% of their winter maize because of the low temperatures, this year returned to suffer from adverse weather conditions, and has verified their losses.

Cristiano Bortolotto, a farmer from the same region, already estimated a drop of at least 15% of their crops because of frost. The sheets were burnt in the formation of the elements of grain filling period, one of the most important for the plant.

"It's the drying of the sheet, failing to do more photosynthesis occurring and the loss in weight and poor grain formation," explains the agronomist Luiz Felipe Corsini.

Currently, Mato Grosso do Sul is the third largest producer of winter maize in the country. This year, it is estimated that the planted area exceeds 1.1 million hectares, 40% in the southern region, where frost affected crops of at least four cities.
