Corn exports from Paranaguá fold in the first half

The harvest of the second corn crop started only now, but the export volume this year as surprising.

Corn exports from Paranaguá fold in the first half

According to data of the statistical department of the Administration of Paranaguá and Antonina Ports (APPA) in the first half of this year, the export of the commodity by the Port of Paranaguá was almost double compared to the same period in 2011. In 2012, already are more 868 000 tons exported against 440,000 tons in the same period last year.

"National figures indicate a volume of seventeen million tons of corn for export by the end of the year. Of this total, five million must come to Paranaguá. It is a great deal; hundred percent more than the Port exported last year, "says business manager of Appa, Lawrence Fregonese.

So far, the country has exported over 1.8 million tons of corn. Almost 135 000 tonnes in the month of June. Data are from the Ministry of Industry and Trade Development.

Prices - Even with an expected record harvest this year in Paraná - somewhere around ten million tons - the expectation is that prices remain. "Despite the product offering to be showing great and because of that, prices are under pressure, the trend is that it will be reversed from the fall of the US crop," provides agronomist Marcelo Garrido, technical, Department of Economics Rural (Deral) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Supply (Seab), Marcelo Garrido. He said the Paraná producer should receive around R $ 20 for the bag of corn.

The harvest of the second corn crop began in May, followed in June, intensifies in July, but has peaks in August and September. According to Deral, the Paraná producers harvested only 5% of winter maize. However, 20% of the crop have already been sold. "This year we had change in the agricultural calendar. The Paraná planted his corn ten days before, even to prevent the most critical period of frost, "said Garrido.

From January to June, again according to the manager of Deral, the export of Brazilian corn U generated revenue of $ 470 million. For Paraná, were 180 million in the same period. That is, the state had a 38% stake. "This participation is much higher than the average of last year, which was no more than 16%," said Garrido.

And the expectation is that the export of the winter maize should also greatly increase in the second half, following confirmation of the breakdown of the US crop, due to the drastic drought.

Exporters - Second Helder Catarino, commercial manager InterAlli, a major exporter of the commodity in Paranaguá, is expected to end the year with more than four million tons of exported corn. "The main factors that make improving our expectations are high production of the second season, the strong demand for the product and good prices," he says.

More than 653 000 tonnes of maize exported by Paranaguá come from Paraná producers. The main second State of origin of the product is the Mato Grosso do Sul, responsible for 55 tons. And the main cargo destinations in 2012 were Taiwan and Morocco.

Exporters and producers who want to operate by the Paraná port, the business manager of Appa gives a message. "We will do our best to meet the demand. Considering the performance we had with soy, despite all the rain the first half, I say to producers: can rest assured that the Port of Paranaguá will give account "guarantees Lourenco Fregonese.
